The Vaad’s activities in St Petersburg
started in 1999 when the Vaad assumed responsibility for the Migdal
Ohr yeshiva that had been operating for about 9 years. Under the
able leadership of R' Elozor Nezdatney, a native of St Petersburg
and former refusenik, the yeshiva now called Pri Yitzchok, (named
after Reb Itzlele Peterburger) has provided hundreds of boys and
girls with an authentic Jewish education. Many of the students have
moved on to yeshivos in Israel, married, and now raise true Jewish
homes.
The yeshiva serves boys from kindergarten
through high school with a comprehensive Torah program in addition
to a full curriculum of secular studies. After the boys graduate
high school, many stay on for the Bais Medrash program, which offers
a full day of more intensive Talmudic and Judaic studies. Dormitory
facilities are also provided so the students can benefit from a
true religious atmosphere 24 hours a day. Additionally, the Vaad
offers after school and Shabbos programs for girls and weekly adult
education classes.
In 2005 the Vaad in conjunction with
the Ner L’elef foundation opened the city's first Kollel led
by one of the yeshiva’s first talmidim. The new Kollel is
injecting new life and energy into the yeshiva and promises to lead
the yeshiva and the whole community to even greater heights.
