Nestled at the foot of the Caucasus Mountains
about 2 1/2 hours drive from Baku, is a village consisting entirely
of Jews, called Kuba. The community has managed over the years of
communism to maintain many traditional customs, but since their
Rabbis and community leaders were assassinated or deported by the
Soviets, they have been without any guidance in Torah and Halocha.
Rav Adam Davidov directs the Vaad’s
activities in Kuba together with his wife. Besides serving as the
town’s Rov, R’ Adam gives shiurim in the morning and
afternoon to the boys, while his wife gives classes to the girls
after their regular school hours. The Yeshiva building was recently
renovated and a modern computer classroom was added, as well as
dormitory space for boys who live far from the yeshiva to sleep
on Shabbos.
The Vaad’s Mikva is now undergoing
renovation and additional space will become available for the girls
school. The village’s isolated location from the large cosmopolitan
cities and it’s only Jewish residents, makes Kuba a fertile
ground for the Vaads activities with great potential given the proper
resources.
